When you’re hosting a baby shower, you’ve got a lot of details to coordinate. Like any special occasion, you want everything to be just right. So you carefully put together a budget and To Do list and you get busy. While preparing each, don’t forget to budget time and money for a baby shower game gift.
Baby shower games are a big part of the baby shower tradition. Besides the food and the gifts, guests expect to play games. Games like guessing the expectant mother’s waist size, guessing how many cotton balls are inside a baby’s bottle and pin the baby on the mommy are just some of the games that have been adapted for baby showers. Since every good game deserves a winner, it makes sense that every winner deserves a baby shower game gift.
It’s not necessary to spend a lot of money on a baby shower game gift. Games are purely for entertainment and knowing there’s some sort of reward helps even the quietest guest spring to life. And who knows? You might even see some competitiveness emerge among those quite ones!
You should be prepared with one baby shower game gift for the winner of every game you intend to play. If you’re feeling generous, you can have gifts for the second and third place winners, too. But that’s definitely optional. If your budget doesn’t allow it, don’t worry. What’s important is that your guests have fun and get a chance to mingle.
What makes a suitable baby shower game gift? Anything really even things you pick up at the dollar store. A journal, scented candle, stationary, chocolate bar, gift certificate for a movie rental – there are so many good choices. No matter what you select, it’ll look that much better if it’s wrapped or placed inside a gift bag. After all, the guest of honor shouldn’t be the only one lucky enough to open a gift!

Darling baby clothes. Check. Precious stuffed animals. Check. Mountains of baby diapers. Check. Although these baby gifts are useful, it can remind you a bit of socks in your stockings on Christmas morning; boring, generic and certainly not well thought out. Gifts like this can often lead mom-to-be to ask herself, “What about me?”
So what is going to blow her socks off you ask? Well, any of the following would make excellent choices:
1. Caring Postpartum Assistance (Doula, Lactation Consultant, Baby Nurse)
Any extra help a new mom can get will make her postpartum life that much easier. A gift certificate from a postpartum doula, lactation consultant or baby nurse will be heaven-sent. New moms, who often times need breastfeeding support, emotional and physical support, and have questions about caring for the new baby, can benefit greatly from the expert advice and caring assistance of a professional.
2. Nutritionally Balanced Meals
During the postpartum period, the need for good nutrition is greater than at any other time in a new mom’s life. As the saying goes, you are what you eat. Food is what will fuel mom during this precious period so make sure that she has access to foods that will help her body heal and give her strength to carry on. The last thing a new mom should be worried about is getting good, nutritious food on the table. Gift certificates for local healthy restaurants, gourmet food delivery companies or personal chefs will take the pressure off when it comes to mealtime.
3. Heavenly In-home Spa Services
Who doesn’t like to be pampered? Historically, new moms were fawned over by their female relatives, but that doesn’t seem to be the case any longer. Everyone’s lives are so busy and they just flat out don’t have the time. Send her an in-home mani/pedi or a one-hour aromatherapy massage. She won’t have to leave the sanctuary of her home and nothing will lift her spirits like being queen for a day.
4. Helpful Personal Concierge Services
Because daily responsibilities don’t stop when a new baby comes home, everyday tasks can pile up quickly. With everyone focusing on mom and baby, who will pick up the mail, clean the house, go grocery shopping, walk the dog or do the laundry? Sending a personal concierge to help manage the backlog of duties could not come at a better time for a new mom. These “on-call personal assistants” can tailor their services to each individual family’s needs.
5. Lifesaving Recovery Kits
Mom and new baby arrive home from the hospital and all is well until the dreaded back and forth to various stores picking up items that will help mom feel a little better. Recovery kits are a perfect way to take the legwork out of the search for the perfect recovery products. Send a grab bag of products that help to accelerate healing, minimize swelling and bruising, alleviate pain and discomfort, minimize scar appearance, and aid in the overall journey back to well being.
So is mom-to-be selfish for wanting a special something just for her? No! She just wants to be able to pour as much love and energy into her new baby and she is hoping that there is something out there to help her along the way. Luckily for her…there is.

However, it should also be ensured that they learn something even while playing games. Some of the popular classroom games are described below.
Counting
Children can be given different objects in various shapes, sizes and colors and asked to count them and separate them into categories based on their physical properties. This will develop their numerical abilities and also help them build their cognitive skills.
Repetition
This is a very important part of the learning process. Since the attention span of children can be very short, everything needs to be repeated so that they are able to grasp the concepts and ideas, and retain the information. Numbers, alphabets, colors all need to be repeated to have a lasting effect on the children’s minds.
Rhymes and songs
They are a great way to memorise things, and a little bit of melody always enhances the retention powers. This can also be modified to accommodate physical activity which is sure to keep the children engaged. Children can move with the rhythm, and they will have fun even while learning new things.
Statues
This fun game can provide children a much needed break from the monotony of a classroom. The children can stand up and act out imagined scenarios like sliding, skiing, or even fighting. This activity can be turned into a competition by selecting the best statues. This game also makes room for imagination and creativity, and help the children develop their dramatic skills.
Dumb charade
This is a game where the children are divided into groups. Each group is given a topic or a word which they have to mime out while the other groups must take turns guessing the right answer. This also keeps the children engaged and entertained while at the same time teaching them new things.
Wheel of fortune
This game is played with a sticky ball. The class should be divided into 2 teams and a giant wheel should be drawn on the board. This wheel should be divided into 8 pieces. Half of these should have points. The other half can be named anything like “bankrupt”, “switch”, or “bow”. A player from each team should be chosen and a question asked. This question can be from a lesson taught in class. On answering, the students can go to the toss line and toss the ball to their targets. The game can continue as long a victorious team does not emerge. This activity is ideal to review concepts taught in class.
Games can be a fun and entertaining way to teach children, and they are certainly among the most effective teachers.
